RIP Steve Jobs

In the case of Steve Jobs, a person of such immeasurable public profile, there is a feeling on my part to share on a personal level, rather than harp on about his business achievements and the like. I will confess that I am a fan of Apple products; I am typing this on a 3 year old 20" iMac, the second one I've owned. In our household we have a 13" Macbook, 13" Macbook Pro, a Time Capsule HD, Apple TV, an iPhone4, iPhone3G, an iPod touch and 3 iPod Nanos of varying ages. I am by no means a technophile; I consider computers and technical gadgets to be tools of the trade and at times, cool things to play with, things to be entertained by. I read a quote regarding Jobs own opinion on computers, early in his career. He remarked that home computers should be "bicycles of the mind", and that resonated nicely with me. What appeals to me in a big way is the simplicity of the devices, an ignoramus like myself can turn one on and within a short time be putting it to good use. The Jobs philosophy of simplicity and attractive functionality seems to be apparent in all the products.
That is the main thing that I would like to express my gratitude for in the Steve Jobs legacy. Love Apple or hate it, there is no denying the massive changes that his ideas and influence have had on our society. It has been said before; it could be 200 years before we see another personality of his genius and tenacity come to the fore. One can't help but wonder if the Apple influence and innovation will continue or start to wane from this point without the mind of Steve Jobs at the OS helm.
So thank you Mr Jobs for making all those cool things, and making computers fun and interesting for...anyone, really.
