The Hunter was Hunted...

A huge, warm, heartfelt 'thank you' to those that joined us on Saturday night just gone for the Harrigans gig! Some regulars from The Royal at Springwood were also there;  thanks for making the trip, Vicki and Veronica! Some great pics taken by Vicki Lowe, very cool :)

I think we counted at least two, possibly three hens parties, as well as a 30th birthday, so the tone was already set for raucous behaviour! We opened with the Dire Straits classic and confirmed crowd favourite, 'Sultans of Swing', followed by that cracker of a tune by The Cure 'Friday I'm In Love'. This is a relatively new tune for The Suspects playlists, and has already established itself as one of our most popular covers.

We love playing to this crowd. We have found the average age to be somewhat younger than we might see at our home-turf venue, The Royal Hotel. Mainly because Harrigans is a popular haunt for parties and special occasions; at a guess we would say most of the crowd last Saturday were around the low 20's to early 30's. As a result, you see a marked difference in their response to our set list. You gotta love the gen Y's! One of the funniest things I have seen is the way in which this bracket will request a song. People of my age group (er..late 30's, early 40's) will hear a song through its entirety, give a round of applause and maybe approach us between songs to suggest a tune.

Not these guys! The Y's have no time for such a lengthy wait! They come to the front of the stage or side and yell in your ear while right in the middle of a guitar solo! "My mate Sheree is getting married on Sunday, do you guys know any Rhianna?" The best example of Gen Y's proclivity to impatience and aptitude for technology was this: Dave was literally in mid-song when a young man of about 22 stepped forward, typed something on his iPhone then held it literally 6 centimetres from his face! Dave could only grin and shake his head, at which time the young man took 2 steps back and typed something else and held the screen up! Dave later commented that he was requesting a song by Usher or someone like that. Now, you wouldn't see that at a U2 concert, would you? Another first for me!

Should we have a page here dedicated to song requests? Love to hear your suggestions! Maybe we need a plasma screen scrolling tweets from the crowd, "Can of Worms" style....? hmmm
